The Advance Practice Psoriasis Recognition Program (A-PReP) is specifically designed to address knowledge and practice gaps among physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs). The program covers pathophysiology, diagnosis, and assessment of psoriasis, appropriate therapies, and recent treatment guidelines through didactic lectures, specialized modules, and Q&As. More clinicians are expanding their practices to address the needs of a population with ever-increasing medical needs and broadening their availability to see patients through PAs and NPs. It is essential that psoriasis patients receive consistent and comprehensive care from all dermatology health care providers to ensure better outcomes, adherence, and satisfaction. By building relationships with their patients and working collaboratively with dermatology and rheumatology health care providers and other specialists, NPs and PAs can facilitate communication about patients' treatment preferences and expectations for symptom relief. They may also be better able to work with the patient to optimize treatment adherence.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Better understand the pathophysiology of PsO, including identification of targets for therapy
  • Present guideline-based criteria to the diagnosis and assessment of PsO
  • Establish confidence for selecting appropriate therapies for moderate to severe PsO based on current evidence for efficacy, safety and adherence
  • Detail the role of early intervention and referral in PsO, including the use of goal-oriented (treat to target) strategies in monitoring outcomes from therapy
  • Outline the spectrum of comorbidities associated with PsO including PsA and institute treatment plans aimed at minimizing their impact on health outcomes and quality of life
  • Understand and implement both American Academy of Dermatology-NPF guidelines of care for the management and treatment of PsO guidelines for topical therapy and alternative medicine modalities, systemic non-biological therapies, pediatric patients, phototherapy, biologics and comorbidities and the American College of Rheumatology-NPF guideline for the treatment of PsA
