SDPA 2025 Advocacy
Shaping the Future of Dermatologic Care
The Society of Dermatology Physician Associates (SDPA) is committed to securing a vibrant and sustainable future for DermPAs by advocating for evidence-based policies at the federal, state, and health plan levels.
Our mission is to ensure that DermPAs can deliver the highest standard of dermatologic care. Championing legislation and regulatory reforms that reflect the evolving role of physician associates and the growing needs of the patients we serve.
Through active member engagement and strategic partnerships, SDPA addresses critical issues related to:
- PA practice authority and autonomy
- Timely and appropriate access to dermatologic care
- Health equity and public awareness of skin health
- Reimbursement and regulatory barriers that hinder practice
Advocate
Our advocacy work is structured around three strategic pillars, each with a focused set of priorities and actions:
We advocate for national policies that enhance PA practice autonomy and access to skin treatment across all states.
Each state presents unique regulatory challenges and opportunities. We work closely with state affiliates, boards, and coalitions to eliminate outdated restrictions that burden PAs and delay care.
Access to care is not only determined by law, but also by insurance coverage and payment structures. SDPA advocates with commercial and government health plans to continually increase timely access to dermatological care.

Why Advocacy Matters
Advocacy is more than just legislation—it's about protecting the integrity of the DermPA-patient relationship and ensuring that every patient has access to timely, high-quality dermatologic care.
By raising our collective voice, we champion both our profession and the patients who rely on us every day.
