CME MISSION STATEMENT

PURPOSE

In fulfillment of our CME mission, SDPA strives to improve dermatology physician associates and other members of the dermatology care team competency, enhance performance, and improve patient outcomes through a comprehensive range of topics, including techniques, current concepts, and new technologies in the dermatologic field.

TARGET AUDIENCE

SDPA encourages all health care professionals with an interest in dermatology care, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physicians, allied health providers, medical researchers, and scientists, to participate in its activities.

CONTENT AREAS

SDPA programs address the learning needs of its members and others in the dermatology care field in their care of patients with dermatologic issues and improve their ability to assess treatment options, critique and evaluate new developments and concepts on their effect of dermatologic care. Development of individual activities is done through a series of needs assessments identifying education gaps of the membership and educational program participants, knowledge and skills generally accepted by dermatology health care professionals, and innovative, clinical, surgical, cosmetic, and professional content published in peer-reviewed publications.

TYPES OF ACTIVITIES PROVIDED

Professional development activities of SDPA CME are designed to promote professional performance, competency, and improved patient outcomes. The wide range of activities, all based on adult-learning principles, allow for different styles, taking into consideration the expected outcomes of each activity. The program provides didactic forums, utilizing audience participation; hands-on surgical workshops, focusing on new technologies and improving attendee’s skills; and enduring materials, including print and electronic media programs, applying knowledge check and post-activity assessments.

EXPECTED RESULTS

The overall education program is intended to improve dermatology physician associates and other members of the dermatology care team competence and enhance performance relative to patient care. SDPA is committed to assessing the effectiveness of its CME program and employs assessment methods to evaluate the extent to which CME activities result in changes through implementation of new techniques, research and concepts learned during an activity. Verification of stipulated expectations and measurement tools takes place through careful review by appropriate committees and feedback from participants.
