Member Spotlight: Tina Moussally, PA C—An Integrative Leader in Dermatology

This month’s Member Spotlight features Tina Moussally, PA‑C, a trailblazing DermPA™ whose 20-year career reflects clinical excellence, ethical leadership, and a deep commitment to mentorship and patient-centered care. As a solo provider, practice owner, and national educator, Tina exemplifies what it means to practice dermatology with intention and integrity.

Current Role and Practice Focus

Tina is the CEO and solo provider of Derm Haven Inc., a role she has held for the past four years. At Derm Haven, she practices fully integrated medical and aesthetic dermatology, blending evidence-based care with an artistic eye and a long-term, relational approach to treating patients. As both clinician and business owner, Tina brings a uniquely holistic perspective to dermatologic care.

What Inspired Her to Become a Dermatology PA

Tina’s journey into dermatology began organically. Early in her career, she worked with two brothers—one a plastic surgeon and the other a dermatologist—splitting her time evenly between the two specialties for a year. That experience illuminated the balance she was looking for: surgery, medicine, aesthetics, and lasting patient relationships. Dermatology ultimately brought all of those elements together.

Career Evolution and Giving Back

Throughout her career, Tina has helped open and expand dermatology practices for other providers. Today, her professional evolution continues as a practice owner, but with a renewed focus on giving back. Recognizing the responsibility that comes with two decades of experience, she now serves as a nationwide injectable trainer and mentor, supporting fellow PAs through education, guidance, and real-world insight.

A Patient Experience That Shaped Her Practice

When reflecting on moments that shaped her approach to care, Tina shares a profoundly impactful experience from earlier in her career. After completing a scalp excision for basal cell carcinoma on an elderly, medically fragile patient—despite voicing concerns and requesting that her supervising physician perform the procedure—the patient suffered a fatal seizure shortly after Tina left the room.

The experience became a defining lesson about listening to one’s instincts, advocating fiercely for patients, and setting firm ethical boundaries, particularly when caring for individuals nearing the end of life. It solidified her belief that not all procedures are appropriate simply because they are possible.

Dispelling Common Misconceptions

One misconception Tina frequently encounters? “People assume we’re all pimple poppers,” she says candidly. “And unless I absolutely have to be—that’s my least favorite part of being a dermatology provider.”

The Impact of SDPA

Early in her career, Tina practiced with minimal supervision and relied heavily on self-guided education. She attributes SDPA in playing a pivotal role in filling that gap, providing the resources, education, and community she needed to grow with confidence in the specialty.

Advice for New DermPAs

Tina’s advice to those entering dermatology is both encouraging and grounding:

“Keep learning and evolving.”

Even after 20 years in the field, she emphasizes that dermatology continues to change at a rapid pace—making lifelong learning essential for anyone who wants to thrive.

Life Outside the Clinic

Outside of practice ownership and patient care, Tina is deeply committed to maintaining a healthy work–life balance. She lives near Zion National Park and enjoys hiking, weight training four days a week, and prioritizing her spiritual health alongside time with family, friends, and travel.

A Surprising Career Chapter

Many colleagues are surprised to learn that Tina previously practiced oncology for over a year—an experience that nearly broke her emotionally. After leaving that role, she returned to her surgical roots, having completed more surgical rotations than medical ones during PA school, and initially believed Plastic Surgery was where she belonged.

Dermatology, however, proved to be the perfect fit. “It brought together skin cancer care, surgery, aesthetic artistry, and meaningful patient relationships over decades,” Tina reflects. “Dermatology found and saved me.”

Advocacy, Education, and Social Media

Long before social media became mainstream in medicine, Tina recognized its potential for public health education. In 2014, she completed a master’s-level epidemiology course through the University of Sydney, focusing her thesis on how Instagram could be used to improve melanoma prevention and early detection.

While she is less active on social platforms today, she can still be found on Instagram at @Ms.DermHaven.

  • Favorite skincare ingredient: Old-school, generic Rx Retin‑A—a proven staple she’s watched drop from $500 in 2006 to around $25 today.
