President's Column | March 2026
March always feels like that in‑between month—still winter on the calendar, but you can almost feel everything starting to wake up again. Here in Wisconsin, we’re still dealing with the dry air, the cold wind, and that classic “winter itch” that every DermPA knows all too well. But even with the snow hanging on, there’s a gentle shift in the air. The mornings feel a little brighter, the days stretch just a bit longer, and there’s a quiet sense of renewal that’s hard to ignore.
That same sense of renewal is showing up in the work we’re doing together at SDPA. With elections opening this month, we have an opportunity to shape the next chapter of our organization and support the leaders who will guide us forward. Your vote truly matters, and I hope you’ll take a moment to participate.
We’re also gearing up for something that has been a long time coming: our ITCH Conference in Puerto Rico. Many of you remember 2017, when we were all so excited to gather there—right before Hurricane Maria tore through the island and forced the cancellation of our fall conference. It was heartbreaking to watch the devastation unfold, and it left a mark on all of us. Ever since then, returning has felt like unfinished business. So to finally be heading back, with ITCH as our focus, feels meaningful in a way that’s hard to put into words. And after this long, cold Wisconsin winter, I’ll be honest—warm sun, ocean air, and time with colleagues in such a beautiful place sounds pretty wonderful.
If Puerto Rico doesn’t fit your schedule this spring, we’ve got another great opportunity coming up: our Summer Conference in Denver this June. Denver brings its own kind of magic—mountains, fresh air, and a vibrant setting for learning and connecting. Whether you join us in Puerto Rico, Denver, or both, I hope you’ll find a way to plug into the energy of our upcoming events.
You’ll also see a call to action soon about our state affiliate program. If your state doesn’t yet have a chapter or affiliate, we’ll be looking for opportunities to build new state‑level and regional connections. This is an exciting step toward strengthening our presence across the country and making sure DermPAs have strong, supportive communities wherever they practice.
March may still be chilly, but there’s so much warmth and momentum building within SDPA. Elections, conferences, new initiatives, new connections—it all reminds me how lucky we are to be part of a profession that keeps moving forward with purpose and heart. Thank you for everything you do for your patients, your teams, and for each other.
Warmly,
Sarah Vicari, MMS, PA-C President
