President's Column | October 2025

When October rolls around, many are swept up in all things autumn, like pumpkin spice lattes and cozy fall vibes. But in the PA world, October means something more—PA Week, our time to be recognized and celebrated as the vital force we are in medicine. We expand access, bridge gaps, and keep healthcare moving forward with compassion, expertise, and grit.
PA Week isn’t just about recognition—it’s about reflection. It’s a moment to honor the journey we’ve taken, the patients we’ve served, and the peers who’ve lifted us along the
way. Whether you’re in private practice, part of a large specialty group, a large hospital system or somewhere in between, it’s easy to feel unseen—especially in a profession where we give so much of ourselves to others. That’s why this week is more than just a celebration; it’s a call to action. Take a moment to reach out to a fellow PA. Whether it’s a simple “Happy PA Week,” a heartfelt “You’re doing a great job,” or a sincere “You’re a fabulous PA,” your words matter. Send a coffee via text. Leave a handwritten note on a coworkers desk. Share a shout-out on social media (#SDPAShoutOut). These small gestures of appreciation can ripple through someone’s day, reminding them that their work is valued and their presence makes a difference. We rise by lifting each other—and this week, let’s make sure every PA feels seen, celebrated, and supported.
As the AAPA reminds us, “PAs go beyond because they believe expanding access to quality care is more than just a job. It’s the idea that inspires them—and the call to service they never tire of answering.” That’s what Derm PAs do. We show up with curiosity, humility, and heart. Whether it’s a dinner conversation or a hallway chat, we dive deep asking what’s working, what’s not, and how we can do better. We never stop learning, never stop serving, and never stop striving to lift our patients and one another. One of my favorite quotes comes from Booker T. Washington: “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” So this week, lift up your fellow PAs. Let them feel seen. Help them feel celebrated. Show them the deep appreciation they deserve—for their role in healthcare, for their impact in our communities, and for the heart they bring to this profession.
And speaking of celebration—our SDPA conference in San Antonio this November is the perfect place to keep that energy going. It’s more than a gathering; it’s that feeling of coming home. It’s a vibrant experience where education meets connection, and inspiration meets action. Whether you’re craving clinical pearls, networking with equally passionate peers, or just soaking in the local flavor, this conference is designed to recharge your spirit and reignite your purpose. We’ve curated every detail to reflect the heart of our community—and I truly believe you’ll leave feeling uplifted, empowered, and proud to be a Derm PA. I can’t wait to see you there. Let’s make this PA Week—and this fall—one to remember.
Warmly,
Sarah Vicari, MMS, PA-C
