President’s Message | April 2022

Dear Colleagues,
It is the most exciting time at the SDPA as it is an opportunity for members to join the leadership team and be part of the growth of our profession. This call to action is the perfect opportunity for you to tell us what is important to you and step up to create change. Active participation from our members is what makes the SDPA thrive. The past year has been an example of it, and as I finish my Presidency in the next couple of months, I know it will continue. So, join the team this year and keep up the momentum! You can make a difference! SDPA leaders have passion and are selfless regarding what is essential for the profession to be a competitive, respected community. This month, I ask you step up and tag the SDPA on social media with your daily accomplishments. Help spread the word about what we do and the difference we make. Make sure you use #dermpa and tag us on your favorite platform. (Twitter - @DermPA; Facebook – Facebook.com/society of dermatology physician assistants – SDPA; Instagram - @derm_pa; LinkedIn – DermPA).

The SDPA has had such a busy spring, highlighted by a meeting with leadership of the American Academy of Dermatology during the AAD annual conference in Boston, Massachusetts, in late March. The room was full of renowned Dermatologists from across the country, and it was an excellent opportunity for the SDPA to shine! The hour-long conversation was about working together and understanding the importance of the collaborative relationship between Dermatologists and Derm PAs. We believe we have made great strides in the Dermatology PA profession and look forward to ongoing communication with the AAD.
The SDPA Annual Summer Dermatology Conference in Austin, Texas, is just around the corner, and I am proud to offer our first blood drive from 9:00AM to 3:00PM, Saturday, June 18 (sign up for an appointment here). So, roll up your sleeve and be ready to give back to the community. The best part of the conference will be keynote speaker Jean Bolognia, MD, who we enjoyed chatting with at the AAD. Her support, compassion, and grace were contagious. She is the epitome of a woman who is beautiful inside and out.
Finally, make sure you are on the lookout for the SDPA Distance CME rolling out the very first SDPA Cosmetic Course. It has been a long time coming, and I am proud of all the renowned cosmetic PAs who contributed and the committee that made it happen. A huge shout out for their time, commitment, and expertise on the project. In closing, please know that I love chatting with all of you. I am always available at rblock@dermpa.net. I hope to see you in Austin, So bring your favorite white ensemble, and be ready to shine bright like a diamond!
With you and for you,

Renata Block, MMS, PA-C SDPA President
