President's Message | August 2021

Dear Colleagues,
As summer is ending and the school year is about to begin, I cannot help to think that a Dermatology PA’s "school year" never really ends. The excitement of education, networking, and purchasing new tools is always on throughout the year for many healthcare professionals; it makes us better at our profession and as providers for our patients. We all know that "knowledge is power."
Being part of the SDPA for almost 10 years, there is one thing that has stuck out to me. No matter where you are in your career, Dermatology PAs always seek to further their education. We always want to do better, learn more and take that extra step.
However, one thing we can all do better is advocating for ourselves. So here is your call to action:
- What are you doing to promote the profession?
- Are you contributing to your place of employment regarding patient education, volunteering, or bringing new patients into the clinic?
Are you reaching out to local news channels, radio, schools, and such to educate the public on what a Dermatology PA is?
Remember, all that it costs you is time, effort, and the will to advocate. Though you don't get paid to do such things, nothing is more important than shouting from the rooftops how proud you are to be a Dermatology PA. So please share your proud advocating moments with the SDPA so that we can highlight your contributions throughout the year!
With that, I am encouraging you to be your brand every day.
With you and for you,
Renata Block, MMS, PA-C
SDPA President
