American Academy of Physician Associates

Our Partnership with AAPA

The SDPA is a recognized constituent organization of the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA). AAPA’s network includes over 100 affiliated groups, ranging from state chapters to specialty organizations like ours. Among the 26 specialty groups, SDPA is proud to be the largest, representing PAs who specialize in dermatology.

We work alongside AAPA to advocate for DermPAs on key issues such as reimbursement, clinical practice regulations, and the evolving role of PAs in healthcare.

In 2015, SDPA was honored with the AAPA Constituent Organization Award for Growing the PA Profession for our efforts in melanoma awareness and prevention advocacy.

Together, we’re committed to supporting the growth and recognition of Dermatology PAs nationwide.

SDPA in the AAPA House of Delegates

Director, Constituent Organization Engagement Pictured after a dynamic collaborative meeting at the 2025 SDPA Summer Conference, our Board had the pleasure of working alongside Brian to strengthen our coordination with the AAPA and expand our impact in DermPA advocacy and organizational strategy.

As a Constituent Organization (CO) of the AAPA, the SDPA holds a seat in the House of Delegates (HOD), the AAPA’s governing body that shapes internal policy and public positions on key issues impacting the PA profession.

Much like the U.S. House of Representatives, each CO is granted a number of delegates based on membership size. Specialty organizations, like the SDPA, are allotted two delegates, with one seated vote.

Each year during the AAPA Conference, the HOD holds a three-day session where delegates from across the country debate resolutions and vote on policy proposals. The SDPA’s HOD delegates advocate on behalf of our members, guided by recommendations from our Board of Directors.

Year-round, delegates stay informed on legislative developments, emerging policy changes, and opportunities for political engagement. Regular communication from AAPA leadership ensures the SDPA remains connected and ready to respond to changes that affect the dermatology PA community.
