What is an SDPA Affiliate Chapter?

An SDPA affiliate chapter is an independent state dermatology physician assistant (PA) organization. Affiliate chapters provide valuable information and insight about the dermatology specialty in their state and to SDPA membership and leadership. Affiliate chapters are not chartered, although they remain an integral part of the SDPA framework and ensure the Society has the maximum amount of knowledge and understanding of issues effecting dermatology PAs in each state. Most importantly, our affiliate chapters strengthen the PA profession through their liaisons with their medical and professional counterparts in each respective state. These relationships allow affiliate chapters to partner with the SDPA to effectively address challenges such as reimbursement, clinical practice, and regulation.

Why become an affiliate?

The SDPA's network of state affiliates makes it possible to have a strong network, support and recognition on a national level. Legislators want to hear from locals and having a state affiliate will make you heard! Your affiliate will enable the SDPA to better reach and support members in your state and also to notify them of key legislation which may affect dermatology PAs. A state affiliate also allows you to address local concerns and have connection with the PA state chapter should as joint issues arise. Finally, it give you the opportunity to provide education, news, events, and other information and benefits to working dermatology professionals in your local area.

Forming a new SDPA affiliate chapter may seem daunting, but it’s not outside of your reach. To make the process as approachable as possible the SDPA has developed a step by step guide on forming an affiliate organization. The guide include not only instructions on establishing your organization a legal nonprofit, but also on how to establish your bylaws, build article of incorporate, set up your policies and procedures and ways to encourage members to join. SDPA State Affiliation or SDPA State Liaison?  Which route is best for you?

Want to become a state affiliate, but don’t have the time, manpower or financial commitment now? The SDPA understands that, and now you have a choice!

Think about starting as an SDPA State Liaison.

A SDPA state liaison’s role is to represent the state in which the liaison resides in.  The liaison is the person that facilitates the communication and coordination of their State’s activities between the two organizations (state and SDPA).  The goal is to achieve the best utilization of resources and services of one organization by another.

By becoming an SDPA state liaison first, it will allow you to become familiar with the ins and outs of what it takes to become a state affiliate and help build a network and a team that can work together in providing a basis in becoming a state affiliate. The SDPA wants to be in contact with every state so it can be a better functioning association as a whole. After you formed your local network, you can be on your way to SDPA national affiliation. If you are interested in joining us as a State Liaison, use the link below to submit your application.
