SDPA Member Call to Action - Vital to the PA Profession

We need your voice! The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued the proposed Physician Fee Schedule for 2020, and the proposed rule contains important changes to Medicare (pages 65-66) that would substantially benefit PAs and the patients they serve. There is language included that would modify Medicare's existing physician supervision requirement to defer to state law regarding how PAs practice with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.

Individual states have identified PA legislative changes to modernize PA practice as a means to address healthcare work force challenges.  While not altering the PA scope of practice, the Medicare revisions would modify PA supervision requirements and defer to PA state law to determine how PAs practice, similar to Medicare's regulatory requirements for advanced practice registered nurses. The SDPA and AAPA have been advocating for this change to the Medicare language for many years, and now is the time to push these changes over the finish line.

It couldn't be easier to lend your voice.
