Dear Colleagues,

In Fall 2018, the SDPA Board of Directors decided to move to a standalone organization. This bid for strategic growth included parting ways with our association management company, Interel, and key staff.

We are thankful to Interel and their staff professionals for providing the SDPA four strong years of operational support. We made great memories and friends, but it is now time for SDPA to transition to its own operations, with its own team of staff members and a brand-new physical location.

In January 2019, the Board hired Christine Ward to serve as our Executive Director. Since that time, Christine has worked alongside Interel staff to learn SDPA’s current operating procedures, reinforce SDPA’s organizational legal and governance structure, interview new staff, and identify new office space and supportive technology. The transition deadline from Interel to standalone staff operations is May 14.

There are a lot of exciting aspects of the transition, but perhaps most exciting of all is SDPA’s move to a new location in Old Town Alexandria, VA.  The new office will be located at 300 N. Washington Street, steps away from Old Town's main intersection of King and Washington. We're excited about this new phase in SDPA’s life cycle and will share more with you at the Summer Conference in DC this June.

There were several motivating factors in the selection of  our new office:

1.    Space.  The new office offers 1500 square feet, but more importantly it allows us to consider our new staffing team.  We will be able to start from scratch by knocking down walls and reconfiguring the office space to build cohesiveness and anticipate any future staffing growth.

2.    Visibility.  Located a mile from AAPA headquarters, our new location will help to reinforce ties with AAPA and increase our visibility with other healthcare associations in the DC Metro area.

3.    Location.  The new space is right in the center of town and will put members and staff within easy walking distance of more than a dozen great restaurants, hotels, and the King Street Metro.  The location is also only fifteen minutes from Reagan National Airport. Once settled, we encourage all members to stop by and say “hello” when in the Washington, DC area.

It has been an exciting year for SDPA, and the move to this new location is the start of another wonderful chapter in our organization’s history. We’re still working on the move for the time being, but are incredibly excited to be settled into our new space in the very near future. Additionally, we will share more information about the space and its features as the build-out progresses.

We value our members and are thankful for your support through the years and with this operational transition. While we strive for perfection, there will undoubtedly be a few hiccups along the way. We appreciate your patience during this time and look forward to celebrating with you in June.

SDPA’s new address is 300 N. Washington Street, Suite 405, Alexandria VA 22314.
