Looking Forward to the New Year

As we enter into 2018 we look forward to advancing opportunities for dermatology PAs and hope to have forward progress on many issues facing our members in the coming year.

As this new year begins we renew our hope and optimism that this year will lend better press for all PAs. The SDPA has been busy advocating for and defending dermatology PAs and our profession by rebutting and putting to rest the lies that some wish to write to slander our good profession. As in previous years, we will continue to spread our own positive press concerning dermatology PAs to counter the repetitive attacks from some misinformed members of the dermatology community.

In an effort to open better communication channels with the AAD, and its incoming board, we have requested a meeting with the full board at their meeting in San Diego next month. It is the SDPA board’s feeling that we have so much we could work together on; there are so many important issues affecting our patients that could be a source of unity. Our hope is that the new board will be receptive to focusing on how we can work together on true team based care. In addition, during the AAD meeting we will also be hosting a special reception honoring dermatology PAs on Friday, February 16 from 7:00 – 9:00pm at Puesto at The Headquarters (a short walk from the convention center and nearby hotels). All PAs attending the conference are welcome to join us to meet members of the SDPA board as well as colleagues from across the country.

Also in 2018, we will continue our efforts to see Optimal Team Practice (OTP) implemented on a state-to-state basis. We look forward to representing the SDPA at the AAPA House of Delegates in New Orleans and hope to ensure dermatology PAs, as one of the largest specialty groups, get fair representation when it comes to votes at this meeting.

This June our summer conference will take place in Seattle, Washington. Our CME team has been hard at work ensuring this will be the best SDPA conference yet and we hope you will join us. This year, in celebration of more than fifteen years of conferences, the SDPA is offering $150 off early-bird rates – register today to take advantage of this great deal.

Last June during our summer conference in San Diego we launched the Diplomate Fellowship program and have had great enrollment in the program so far. It is a great source of online CME and the premiere training program for PAs in dermatology.

Cheers to 2018! It is my hope that this year breaks barriers for PAs. Let this be the year that highlights all the great work Dermatology PAs are doing across the country!
