Committees, Moderators, Directors


The SDPA currently has 12 standing committees each of which work to provide valuable programs and benefits for the SDPA and its members. Committees each have one or more Chairs and at least 2 Fellow members. Committees are overseen by the Board of Directors. We encourage interested SDPA members to join committees of interest.

Conference Education Planning Committee

This committee shall develop, organize, and facilitate quality educational sessions for the Fall and Summer SDPA conferences. The committee will continue to drive conference content, speaker selection, CME accreditation, and conference agenda. 

Summer Conference Chair - Eileen Cheever, MPAS, PA-C

Eileen Cheever is board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She obtained a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2008 from Seton Hall University. She is a graduate of Merrimack College in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science in Health Science. In addition to her leadership role in the SDPA, Eileen is also a current member of American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and Massachusetts State Society of Physician Assistants.  Besides practicing medical dermatology, she enjoys precepting both medical students and residents in clinic.


Fall Conference Chair - Keri Holyoak, PA-C, MPH

Keri Holyoak, PA-C, MPH is a Physician Assistant at the Dermatology Center of Salt Lake City, a private medical dermatology clinic. She received a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University. She is also an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Utah Physician Assistant Program.

She has served as Fall CME chair since 2012 after finishing her term as past president for the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). She also represented the SDPA at the American Academy of Physician Assistants annual House of Delegates meeting where she sponsored an accepted resolution against non-compete clauses. She has authored a dermatology chapter for Physician Assistant students. She is married to her best friend and has two daughters.  

CME Director of Conferences - Matthew Brunner MHS, PA-C

Matthew Brunner is a 2000 graduate of the University of South Alabama Physician Assistant training program where he received his Master of Health Science degree. He has practiced in metropolitan Atlanta as a dermatology PA since 2001 with a focus on medical and surgical dermatology. He is a two time past president of the Georgia Dermatology Physician Assistants and has served as CME chair for the GDPA annual conference, Dermatology PEARLS, since 2009. He has also served as Executive Director of the GDPA since 2012. Elected as Director at Large for the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants in 2012; he is the current Immediate Past President, CME Director of Conferences and Election Committee Chair. His passion is focused on expanding professional education opportunities for his fellow dermatology peers.

Constituent Relations Committee

This committee shall actively communicate and assist state constituent organizations in the development of state dermatology PA societies. The committee will identify opportunities for the SDPA to provide guidance and assistance to state affiliate organizations. Chartering of constituent organizations shall be developed and monitored by this committee, when appropriate.

Chair - Renata Block, MMS, PA-C

Ms. Block was born and raised in Chicago, IL and has been specializing in dermatology since 2003.  She became active in her state affiliate in 2009 and served as President of the Illinois Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (ISDPA) from 2010 - 2013.  Since 2013 has been serving as the SDPA Constituent Relaions Chair to assist other states to form affiliates with the SDPA. Ms. Block has a Masters in Medical Science in Physician Assistant studies from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL.  Before beginning her education as a Physician Assistant, she received an undergraduate degree with honors in Biology/Pre-Med with dual minors in Chemistry and Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. She believes being active in leadership is important to educate the public on the importance of dermatology PAs and the role they play in healthcare.  

Distance Medical Education Committee

This committee shall serve as the ‘point of contact’ for all SDPA educational programs that do not occur during in-person meetings and conferences. The committee shall develop, organize and facilitate these quality educational sessions. The committee will also insure these programs are functioning effectively by communicating with all designated parties. The committee will work with the web design team to stay abreast of any new technological advancement and will insure the SDPA is researching and offering new educational opportunities to the membership. The committee shall be responsible for the oversight of the Distance Learning Initiative (DLI) and diplomate status, to include development and marketing.

Co-Chair - Kristen Grippe, MPAS, PA-C

Kristen has worked as a dermatology PA for the past 10 years in Erie, PA. Recently she decided to start as a full time faculty member in the Gannon University PA program in Erie.  Having joined the SDPA in 2005 as a volunteer committee member, she wanted to contribute even more to the organization and transitioned a Committee Chair in 2012.  Kristen currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Distance CME Committee. Kristen has this to say when asked why she decided to join SDPA leadership “I feel that it is very inspiring to work with an organization made up of people just like yourself....Dermatology PAs! We can all relate to one another and our unique specialty, but more importantly we can all make a difference in the SDPA by using our inspiration and motivation to support one another and the advancement of all PAs working in dermatology.” 

Co-Chair - Amy Doody, MPAS, PA-C

Amy D. H. Doody, MPAS, PA-C practices medical dermatology at New England Dermatology Associates in Vernon, CT since 2012. Prior to that she practiced in Neurology and Interventional Radiology in MA and CT. She is Co-Chair of the Distance CME committee since July 2015, with the goal of developing a Performance Improvement (PI) CME program for the SDPA. Amy earned a BS from Central Connecticut State University. Worked in research at UCONN for 5 years with several first author publications in the field of T-cell tolerance focusing on prostate cancer research. Then earned bachelor's and master's degrees in PA Studies in 2006 through the US Army with training at FT Sam Houston, TX and FT Hood, TX. Degree from University of Nebraska. Spent 15 years in the Army National Guard. She became involved with SDPA leadership to reach a greater number of PAs and contribute to improving dermatology PAs' education and confidence, and their reputation in the medical community as well as in the general population. Outside of professional endeavors Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, all sports, reading and running.

Elections Committee

This committee is responsible for the establishment of the elections process for officers and delegates of the SDPA. This committee shall determine the time of election, solicit qualified candidates, determine the eligibility of candidates, obtain and post position statements for publication, distribute, and tally election ballots.

House of Delegates (HOD) Committee

This committee is responsible for communicating AAPA policy, information, activities, and programs to SDPA constituents. The committee shall relay constituent views and suggestions; particularly those related to implementation of AAPA policy positions, to the appropriate SDPA leadership. The committee shall advocate constituent views within the AAPA House of Delegates (HOD) and report highlights of the AAPA HOD meetings to constituents at state and regional society meetings. The committee shall serve as an advocate for patients to improve the health of the public and the health care system. The committee shall cultivate promising leaders and help them gain leadership positions.

Senior Delegate - Jang Mi Johnson, PA-C

Jang Mi Johnson graduated from Cook County Hospital/Malcom X College Physician Assistant Program in 2002. She has been a volunteer leader since 2001 starting in the House of Delegates, as a teller, at the AAPA. She is currently serving as the Immediate Past President of the Illinois Society of Dermatology PAs and the Senior SDPA Delegate to the House of Delegates of the AAPA. She has special interests in surgical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, psoriasis, and ethnic skin and hair. Her hobbies include sewing formal gowns, playing the cello, and enjoying family time with her husband and two fantastic boys!



Junior Delegate - Jodi A. Arnold Burkholz, MPAS, PA-C

Jodi Arnold Burkholz is a PA at Clearlyderm Centers for Dermatology in Boynton Beach, Florida. She received both her Bachelors degree in health education and her masters in physician assistant studies from the University of Florida. She has been a member of the SDPA since 2001, and has served on the CME committee as well as her current role as Junior Delegate to the AAPA's House of Delegates.  

Judicial and Ethical Affairs Committee

This committee shall serve to interpret the SDPA Bylaws and Policy and Procedures and other SDPA documents to insure compliance when questions of adherence arise pertaining to business procedure. The bylaws and policy shall be reviewed at least annually to assure that these documents are not in conflict and review amendments to these documents for compliance to existing policy.

This committee is responsible for the development of a code of medical ethics that establishes the responsibility, moral principles, standards of conduct, and social policy involved in the morality of the practice of medicine and delivery of health care as it relates to the dermatology PA profession. This committee will also develop position papers and policy statements regarding medical ethics and evaluate current medical, moral, and social trends that impact the patient/PA relationship.

Chair - Troy Davis, PA-C

Troy is a board certified PA specializing in medical dermatology, dermasurgery, and cosmetic dermatology. He has practiced as a dermatology physician assistant since 2002, in Texas, Oregon and Washington State. Troy graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2000. He served as the Chief Physician Assistant for Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas from 2001 to 2004 where he received his dermatology training at the San Antonio Uniform Services Health Education Consortium residency program. After being raised and educated on the West Coast, Troy enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served until his retirement in 2004. After his service in the USAF, Captain Troy Davis and his family retired to the Pacific Northwest. He is an avid outdoorsman, enjoys hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, playing guitar and spending time with his beautiful wife and his lovely daughters. 

Legislative Affairs Committee

This committee shall educate our members about the legislative process and importance of individual involvement, maintain contact with state dermatology societies, distribute information packets on state regulations and utilization of dermatology PA and to be the ‘point of contact’ for legislative issues that come up across the nation.

Chair - John Notabartolo, MPAS, PA-C, DFAAPA

John Notabartolo graduated from the Interservice PA Program through University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1998. He served 21 years active duty in the US Air Force and has been actively participating in nonprofit leadership for the past 20 years. John has been President of the Society of Air Force PAs and the Society of Dermatology PAs. He has also held numerous volunteer and elected positions within those organizations as well as within the AAPA. In addition to his role as the Legislative Affairs Committe Chair in the SDPA, John currently serves as the Chair of the Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF).

Membership Committee

This committee shall develop the membership categories, application process, and evaluate applications for appropriate category of membership within the SDPA. The committee will work with the SDPA Executive Director to maintain a current membership database. The committee will update and send electronic ‘welcome’ information to new members. The committee will strive to identify non-members and work to recruit them into SDPA and also identify ways to retain current members. The committee will evaluate, develop and implement new membership benefits.

Recruitment Chair – Sara Wilchowski, PA-C

Sara Wilchowski, born and raised in Michigan, has been an SDPA member since 2010.  She completed her undergraduate degree at Eastern Michigan University. There she was a varsity gymnast and president of the exercise science organization.  She then went on to receive her masters from Wayne State University and graduated magna cum laude.  Her involvement in leadership began as a student. She was a member of the student affairs committee and then was the recent graduate advisor.  She was appointed to the Membership Committee as a Co-Chair in 2014 after being a committee member. Sara is involved in leadership because she has a passion for advancing the PA profession.


Retention Chair – Francine Phillips, MPAS, PA-C

Francine Phillips, born and raised in Florida, is a dermatology Physician Assistant at Florida Medical Clinic in Land O' Lakes. She received a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at A.T. Still University in Arizona. She was appointed to Membership Committee as a Co-Chair in 2016 after being a committee member for 2 years. Francine is involved in leadership because she feels it is a way to give back to the profession she loves. She enjoys running, playing the piano, CrossFit and spending time with her husband, son and Labrador Retrievers.

Publications and Communications Committee

This committee is responsible for developing the written and electronic communications of the SDPA, which may include a quarterly newsletter and monthly electronic communication.

Chair - Travis M. Hayden, MPAS, PA-C

Travis Hayden, MPAS, PA-C is a Board-Certified PA working in dermatology in beautiful Upstate New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at Le Moyne College with a degree in biology. Upon graduating he was awarded enrollment into the U.S. Navy’s Health Services Collegiate Program. Through the program he received his formal training as a physician assistant (PA) at the Sisters of Charity Medical Center of Staten Island, New York. He then proudly served on active duty as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the U.S. Navy, working as a PA in military and family medicine. During his time in the Navy, he completed his Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of Nebraska. Since completing his tour in the Navy in 2003, he has been employed with Dermatology Associates of Rochester where he feels fortunate to provide much needed high quality dermatological care to the many patients in the Finger Lakes region, a mostly rural and dermatologically underserved area of beautiful upstate New York. He has served since 2005 as the SDPA’s Publications & Communications Committee Chair. In 2007 he became the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dermatology for Physician Assistants (JDPA), the official journal of the SDPA, where he continues to work and extend his passion for teaching to help educate the 2,600 plus members of the SDPA. In 2015 Travis was honored with an appointment to the inaugural Board of Trustees of the SDPA’s newly established Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF). Travis’s passion for medical education, teaching, and helping the underserved is rooted in his firm belief that, "whether with students, our peers, or with our patients…only good can come from the sharing of our medical knowledge."  

Public Education Committee

This committee is responsible for promoting PAs who practice medical, surgical and/or cosmetic dermatology. This committee will develop and implement materials that educate the public, health care professionals, and affiliate organizations regarding the role of dermatology PAs in the delivery of quality medical care, as a member of the health care team. This committee will organize the SDPA booth at the AAD winter meeting.

Chair - Jennifer Winter, MSPAS, PA-C

Jennifer Winter practices in Olympia Washington which is also where she grew up. She has been working with the same dermatologist since 1989. Starting as his MA, Jennifer later went back to PA school at the University of Washington. Jennifer joined SDPA the first year she came back to dermatology as a PA and later when her kids were older she began to get involved in leadership. She started by working in the booth at the AAD and helping with the DLI forum. Later she joined the Board of Directors and now is back working the booth at the AAD as the chair of the Public Education committee. Jennifer loves teaching physicians about what we do.

Student Affairs Committee

This committee shall be responsible for coordinating all projects directed at student members, including maintenance of the student member page and preceptor list. The committee shall make recommendations to the Membership Committee regarding recruitment of student members, student member benefits, and retention of student members as they become graduates.

Chair - Genét Finnegan, MHS, PA-C

Genét Finnegan is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola College in Maryland and graduated from the Drexel University Hahnemann PA Program in 2009, with a Master of Health Science, earning the Elizabeth Peabody Stolberg Award for clinical and academic excellence.  Genét moved to New York following graduation and since that time has been practicing general and cosmetic dermatology in Manhattan.  She currently holds a position within the Department of Dermatology at Columbia University Medical Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she specializes in cutaneous oncology. Genét has been a member of the SDPA since 2008.  She recalls the significant role the organization played in her successful transition from student to practicing dermatology PA. She joined the SDPA leadership team to help educate and support PA students as they enter the unique and exciting field of dermatology.

Moderators, Directors & Liaisons

Director of Industry Relations – Robert Higham MPAS, PA-C

Robert Higham obtained his B.S. in Physician Assistant Practice from the University Of Southern California School Of Medicine in 1999. Follow this he obtained a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska’s Physician Assistant Program in 2005. In 2004 Robert began a long and dedicated career in SDPA leadership as a Director At Large on the SDPA Board of Directors. Following this he was appointed the AAPA liaison to the AAD in 2005, a role which he continues to hold. Robert served as President of the SDPA from 2007-2009. Robert has held the position of SDPA Director of Industry Relations since 2005. Participating in SDPA leadership provides Robert with a pathway to give back to a profession and society which have in turn given so much to him.

Blog Post Moderator – Martha Sikes, MS, RPh, PA-C

Martha Sikes attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1997.  She then practiced Pharmacy as a staff clinical pharmacist at Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, Georgia for several years. Feeling the need to provide more comprehensive patient care, she attended Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University) where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant studies in 2002. She received her Masters of Science degree from A. T. Still University in 2012. Martha began her dermatology PA career in 2002 and has extensive experience in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. In 2012, she accepted a full-time faculty appointment at Mercer University Department of Physician Assistant Studies where she also serves as the Academic Coordinator. She continues to practice medical dermatology part-time in addition to her teaching duties.  Martha Sikes has been a member of SDPA since 2002, and was appointed to serve as the Blog Moderator for SDPA in July 2015. Martha feels that being involved in a leadership position is an excellent way to increase awareness of the exceptional care, knowledge, and clinical skills PAs provide to the medical community. In addition to her role in SDPA, Martha is an active member of the Georgia Dermatology Physician Assistants, Georgia Association of Physician Assistants, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and serves as a committee member for the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee to the Georgia Composite Medical Board.  She currently lives in Tyrone, Georgia.

Public Advocacy Liaison - Susan Hammerling PA-C, MPAS, DFAAPA

With over 15 years of experience as a Dermatology Physician Assistant, Susan is currently serving as the Patient Liaison Advocate for the SDPA. Susan holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree as a Physician Assistant. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the AAPA and has earned the Diplomate status with the SDPA. She is a member of the AAPA, American Society of Laser Medicine, and Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. In addition, Susan was Legislative Chair for the SDPA as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the SDPA. Outside of medicine, Susan has extensive experience in the legal field in addition to medicine. She is an Arbitrator, Certified as a Mediator with the Florida Supreme Court, and volunteers for the 18th Judicial Circuit as a Guardian ad Litem. She was invited to be in Brevard Civilian Military Organization, elected to be on the Board of Directors for Crosswinds Youth Services and is a reader for Rolling Readers weekly to an elementary school class. Susan also is a campaign coordinator for local & state races in Florida as well as being a Precinct Committee woman. She has established a proven track record for the election of numerous local & state officials.

American Academy of Physician Assistant (AAPA) Medical Liaison to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) - Vicki Roberts, MPAS, PA-C

Vicki Roberts graduated from the University of Florida in 1999 with a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. For the last 17 years she has been working as a dermatology PA in West Columbia, SC where she lives with her husband and two boys. Over the last 7 years, she volunteered her time in various positions including serving as president of her state society (SCSDPA) and of the SDPA. She is also a current Board of Trustee member of the Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF). As medical liaison between the AAPA and AAD, Vicki will serve a two year term as the official ambassador of the AAPA helping to be a voice for PAs in the rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
